SYNCHRONISATION is a video installation that attempts through the concept of translation, a new interpretation of Fassbinder’s famous film ‘Katzelmacher’. The word ‘Synchronisation’ means ‘dubbing’ in german language, or else the simultaneous translation of a movie into another language. Synchronisation has been often used in the past on film screenings, where subtitles where not available. The video presents the german actress Effi Rabsilber dubbing the film in greek parallel to the film screening. The new interpretation results from the new reading by the actress, of the story of a greek ‘Gastarbeiter’ who arrives in Germany to work. Arriving from the greek word ’συνχρονισμός / synchronismos’ meaning setting together in parallel time, the project presents a synchronization of actors, countries, and different stereotypes at the same time. Translation (μεταφραση/ metatarsi) becomes here the metaphor (μεταφορα/ metaphors) of the stereotypes from one country to another.
