The public installation ‘Open Leipzig’ consists of a minor intervention and an event. The installation involved attaching hinges to the base of the wooden panels that sealed the ground-floor windows of the abandoned buildings on Ludwigstr., so that they folded down into tables on the pavement. The gradient of the street resulted in different heights of the improvised furniture. A flexible construction meant the panels could be closed and opened again, transforming the street into an open public space for the inhabitants to activate. The action and event involved rethinking the future of the city of Leipzig together with the inhabitants in this in-between space. Leipzig has been changing very rapidly in the last few years, from a shrinking city into so-called Hypezig.
