HERBARIUM: of the wall of Neuperlach
Installation
Munich, 2017
In autumn 2016 a four meter height wall was built in Neuperlach between the new refugee accommodation and the residential area. The design technic used for the wall was ‘Gabion’ (from Italian gabbione meaning “big cage”), made of stacked stone-filled metal nests. On both sides of the wall a landscape design is realized through the selection of plants and trees planted on the earth slopes or directly on the wall. The work ‘HERBARIUM (Aus den Mauer von Neuperlach) collects all the plants that have been either selected to be planted and the ones that have been wildly self growing. The Herbarium labels mark the height that each plant can reach, their origin and their pollination. This project comments on the responsibility that design and architecture carry.
